Bringing the ROAR to Your Workout!

Last week, two cast members from Disney’s THE LION KING visited the Trotter Family YMCA and taught an hour-long master dance class to more than 40 adults. Melody Stacey, a healthy living instructor for the Trotter Y, was part of that group and she gives us her take on the memorable experience…

“Hakuna Matata!” It means no worries for the rest of your days. That is exactly how everyone was feeling on Thursday in the Trotter Family YMCA Great Room. We had a fantastic opportunity to dance with two cast members of Broadway Across America’s THE LION KING.

As a former dancer, I was especially moved by this event. Having experienced many different styles and choreographers around the country, this class was top of the line material.

Seeing members and guests come to the YMCA, experience the arts first hand and have an amazing time doing it, was truly a “mission moment” for me. Knowing that we brought together people of different ages, races and social backgrounds is inspiring. Being able to incorporate my love and passion for the art of dance into the Trotter Family YMCA is definitely a dream come true- and The Lion King master dance class is just the beginning!
